Daily Drop-in Tours

Join us daily for a drop-in overview tour with one of our passionate docents at 11 am or 2 pm. Tours are first-come, first served–please check in with the admissions staff when you arrive. INTERACTIVE EXHIBITS

Designed with families in mind, there are plenty of ways for kids of all ages to dive into history throughout the Museum – from child-height displays and a covered wagon playroom, to the sleep-away camp gallery or the whole family piling into an It’s Your Story recording booth to share their own stories, the Museum is a nurturing environment for social interaction, collaboration, and sharing among family members.

Family Days

On Family Days, the Museum offers special educational and public programs featuring arts-and-crafts and other hands-on projects, costumed interpreters, story time, music, movies, and other family-friendly activities.

Save the date: December 25 for our annual Being___at Christmas family day!

The Museum usually also hosts family activities on MLK Day, Presidents’ Day, and July 4. Be sure to check our event listings for updates.

LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is your COVID safety policy?

We don’t currently require masking but visitors are welcome and encouraged to do what makes them feel most comfortable. Please respect your neighbors’ choices.

What is the cost of admission?

Admission to the Museum is currently free thanks to a generous donation from the Jane and Daniel Och Family Foundation. Please consider donating to the Museum to meet the match and keep admission free.

Are admission tickets required in advance?

Admission tickets are available online or at the door.

My general Museum admission ticket says 10 am. Will I be let in if I arrive later in the day?

Yes, general Museum admission tickets are good for the entire day. You can arrive at your convenience.

Do you have any special admissions partnerships?

The Weitzman is proud to participate in the following programs:

Memorial Day through Labor Day, free admission to immediate family members (spouse or children) of active military personnel.

Federally Disabled
Free admission available for visitors with Federal Disability identification.

Art-Reach’s ACCESS Philly Program
Present your state-issued ACCESS/EBT card (along with valid photo ID) to receive $2 general admission for you and up to 3 family members or friends.

STAMP Teen Program
Any high-school teen living in Philadelphia can sign up here for a free STAMP Pass. Present it to receive free general admission.

Bank of America Museums on Us Program
Present your Bank of America® or Merrill Lynch® credit or debit card and a picture ID on the first full weekend of every month for one free general admission. Please note that free admission is limited to the cardholder.

I’m not Jewish – will I understand and enjoy the Museum?

The Weitzman is for everyone! At the Museum, you will find American history through the lens of what one particular immigrant group and religious minority has experienced. We encourage all visitors to consider their own heritage and identity and to think about how different communities shape and are shaped by America.

Where should I park?

There are numerous lots and garages, as well as metered street parking, in the immediate vicinity.

Suggested parking:

The Bourse Garage, one block from the Museum, is open 24 hours a day.

What are my public transportation options?

SEPTA: Via the Market-Frankford line, both east and westbound trains stop at 5th and Market, below the Museum. Visit SEPTA’S website for more details and a trip planner, or use your preferred map app.

PHLASH: The distinctive purple Phlash trolleys provide direct service between the major museums and attractions in Center City. For seasonal operation schedules and cost, visit PHLASH.

Can groups visit the Museum?

Yes. We offer guided experiences for groups of all sizes and students of all ages. Advance reservations are required. Visit our Education & Groups page for more information or contact education@theweitzman.org and our staff will assist you.

Is photography allowed?

Yes. Personal photography is permitted and encouraged, except where noted! Tag the Museum on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. The use of flash, video, tripods, and selfie sticks is prohibited. For commercial photography, contact mediarelations@theweitzman.org.

Can I bring my animal?

No. Pets are not allowed on Museum grounds. Service animals, such as guide dogs, are permitted.

Is the Museum accessible?

ACCESSIBILITY

Mobility

The Museum entrance is wheelchair accessible. All floors, including gallery, dining, and store levels are accessible and can be reached by elevator.

Standard wheelchairs are available on a limited basis at the Admissions Desk. Reservations cannot be reserved in advance; first-come, first served basis. Free of charge; a form of ID is required in exchange.

Audio, Visual, and Additional Resources

Film and video clips in the galleries are captioned.

Assistive listening devices are available for special programs in the Dell Theater.
Way-finding signage includes Braille.
Service animals are welcome in the Museum.

Many gallery spaces contain narrated exhibit components, triggered by proximity or touch.
While most artifacts and objects on view cannot be touched, the Museum offers several tactile elements (primarily geared to children), such as costumes and props.

Paid personal care attendants (PCA) accompanying visitors with disabilities will be admitted for free. These tickets may be obtained at the Admissions Desk. For tickets to public programs, reserve a PCA ticket in advance by calling (215) 391-3812 Complimentary PCA tickets are not available online.

If you have a particular accessibility need, please contact us in advance (at least two weeks is recommended) of your visit. We are happy to arrange on-site assistance when you arrive.

Sensory Backpacks are available on a first come, first served basis and can be reserved at the Front Desk. Backpacks contain emotion, action, and general Museum communication cards, noise-reducing headphones, a weighted compression shoulder pad, fidget tools, and tinted glasses to avoid over stimulation.

What is your security policy?

All individuals are subject to screening. All blades, firearms, and other weapons are not permitted on the premises. All bags (including cameras and laptops) are subject to X-ray or manual inspection. Tripods/monopods are not permitted.

Can I bring large bags and luggage to The Weitzman?

Yes. But, backpacks, umbrellas, bags, purses, and packages larger than 11 x 17 x 8 inches must be checked at the Coat Check on the Museum’s first floor.

Please note that all bags may be subject to security inspection. Hazardous materials (e.g., pepper spray) and weapons of any kind are prohibited and cannot be checked.

Visitor Experience staff are ready to help with any questions you may have.

Can I drop off an artifact or object?

No, the Museum has instituted a moratorium on collection acquisitions through  August 2022. We are grateful for the generosity of the people like you who have helped us build our wonderful collection. You are encouraged to contact us again regarding your donation offer in August 2022.
