Volunteer & Internship Opportunities (Year Round)

Join Our Internship Program at The Weitzman Museum

Are you passionate about history, museums, or non-profit work? At The Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History, we offer internship opportunities designed to provide meaningful, hands-on experiences for college and graduate students. Whether you’re interested in exploring American Jewish history, gaining insight into museum operations, or learning about non-profit management, we would love to meet you and hear about your interests and goals. As an intern, you’ll collaborate with our talented staff, contribute to the success of our Museum, and enhance your professional skills and personal growth.

The Museum is not able to provide compensation for internships, but past interns have had success with scholarships, grants, school credit, and other programs. The career services staff at your school will be able to help you identify opportunities, and I will be happy to work with you to ensure you have any documentation needed.

Eligibility Open to college and graduate students seeking internship opportunities (volunteer, paid, or academic credit through their university). Students must commit to being on-site for at least one semester with a minimum of 24 hours per week (volunteers) or 40 hours per week (paid or scholarships).

Placement Opportunities We strive to match students with placements that align with their interests, skills, career aspirations, and the Museum’s needs. We’re also open to discussing placements for specific student-driven projects. Potential areas include: Curatorial, Communications & Marketing, Public Programs, Education, Visitor Experience, Development(Fundraising) & Membership, and Retail & Sales

How to Apply Submit a resume and a cover letter (outlining your internship goals, what excites you about The Weitzman, and your interests and availability). Email your materials to Janet Halpern, Managing Director, Administration and Human Resources, at jhalpern@theweitzman.org.

Take the first step in your career journey with The Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History. We look forward to hearing from you!

Visitor Experience Volunteers

Would you like to help create a positive experience for all visitors who pass through our doors? As a Visitor Experience volunteer, you would serve on the Museum’s front-line, greeting, directing, and otherwise assisting guests to ensure that their visits are easy and enjoyable. Volunteers can be stationed by the Museum entrance, in the coatroom, throughout exhibit areas, or elsewhere on the floor. They must demonstrate ongoing willingness and flexibility to work in these areas as required.

No special education or knowledge base is required. The only requirements are that you:

  • Are friendly, outgoing, polite, and helpful.
  • Genuinely like interacting with people of all ages and backgrounds, and are comfortable addressing groups.
  • Can and will remain enthusiastic and courteous while conveying the same information (or performing the same basic tasks) repeatedly.
  • Are at least 16 years of age.
  • Can remember and convey directions and instructions clearly.
  • Are responsible, dependable, and punctual.
  • Can commit to working at least one 4-hour shift every other week (although weekly is strongly preferred) for a minimum of six months
