Recommended Grades: 3rd-6th

Becoming American: Jewish Immigration in the Early 20th Century

This program explores the challenges and opportunities that Jewish immigrants encountered upon arriving in the United States. It invites students to examine the personal papers and artifacts of a young Jewish immigrant named Eva Baen, to piece together her life story, and to experience firsthand how historians and museum curators interpret material culture to make sense of the past. Students then have the opportunity to meet the real-life Eva (a historical interpreter) and to tour the museum with a Museum educator.Learn More

Courageous Choices: Advocacy and Allyship in American Jewish History

This program invites students to experience award-winning actor, dancer, and teacher Khalil Munir's riveting one-man show, "1 Pound, 4 Ounces," and to learn from his story of overcoming childhood challenges, like his father's incarceration and his own dyslexia, to become an artistic risk-taker and respected role model. Students then have the opportunity to tour the museum and learn about American Jews who — like Khalil — have stood up for themselves, stood up for others, and made courageous choices to fight for a better world.Learn More

Unique Promise, Imperfect Freedom: Religion and Democracy in America

This program invites students to reflect on the noble ideals embedded in American visions of freedom and democracy, and to examine the ways in which various American institutions and leaders have failed to live up to those ideals. In particular, it highlights the United States' commitment to civil rights, civil liberties, and religious freedom and, at the same time, its historic toleration of antisemitism and other forms of discrimination. Roots to Understanding: Solidarity and Resilience in Today's World

Through film, artifacts, and facilitated discussion, Roots to Understanding invites students to examine Jewish identity, antisemitism, and the enduring power of cross-cultural solidarity. After viewing the PBS documentary "Repairing the World: Stories from the Tree of Life," students explore museum artifacts and primary sources spanning nearly 400 years of American Jewish history, engage in guided discussions about identity and prejudice, and consider how they can help build communities that are stronger than hate.Learn More

Cost of Group Visits
School Groups – All Title 1 schools are eligible for full subvention, including bus transportation. For all other educational school groups, we have needs-based funding available. All Other Groups – Group bookings, including private tours, are available starting at $18pp. Please inquire about availability and pricing.

Hours of Operation
The Museum is open to the public Wednesday-Sunday, 10 am – 5 pm. Groups may be accommodated on other days of the week.
