Looking for engaging school field trips in Philadelphia? The Weitzman’s Colors of Creation educational experiences combine hands-on learning, creativity, and critical thinking for students in Pre-K through 8th grade. Designed for school groups and aligned with Pennsylvania academic standards, these museum field trip programs connect to ELA, STEM/STEAM, Social Studies, Fine Arts, and Social-Emotional Learning curricula.

At the heart of both the American story and Jewish tradition is a belief in the dignity, creativity, and potential of every person. Inspired by the Jewish concept of B’tzelem Elokim (the idea that every person is created with inherent worth), Colors of Creation invites students to explore how ideas, stories, values, and imagination help shape the world around us.

Create Your Own World: Stories
Elementary School Storytelling Field Trip
Pre-K – Grade 5

Students explore the enduring legacy of creation stories and discover how storytelling helps people make sense of the world. Through writing, drawing, movement, music, and collaborative activities, they will identify the elements of a compelling story and create their own stories.

Students will:

  • Explore enduring creation stories and their themes
  • Identify key storytelling elements
  • Express ideas through multiple creative formats
  • Build communication and collaboration skills

Create Your Own World: Colors
Art, Color Theory and Science Field Trip
Pre-K – Grade 5

How do colors shape the way we see and experience the world? Students investigate color through science, art, and design while learning the basics of visual perception and color theory. Through hands-on experimentation, they will discover how color influences emotion, creativity, and self-expression.

Students will:

  • Explore the science of light and color
  • Experiment with prisms, color gels, paints, and other materials
  • Learn foundational concepts of color theory
  • Use color as a tool for creative expression

Create Your Own World: Nature
STEM and Environmental Education Field Trip
Pre-K – Grade 5

Students investigate the natural systems that sustain life on Earth, from ecosystems and habitats to natural resources and life cycles. Through play-based exploration and design challenges, they will create their own “mini-worlds” and develop a deeper understanding of environmental stewardship.

Students will:

  • Learn foundational concepts in ecology and earth science
  • Explore how living things interact with their environments
  • Experiment with natural and organic materials
  • Develop problem-solving and design-thinking skills

Create Your Own World: Civic Values
Middle School Civics and Social Studies Field Trip
Grades 6 – 8

What values should guide a society? Students step into the role of founders tasked with creating guiding principles for a new nation. By examining historical, philosophical, and religious texts, they will discuss concepts such as equality, freedom, responsibility, and community before crafting their own vision for a just society.

Students will:

  • Analyze primary and secondary source texts
  • Debate civic and ethical questions
  • Explore connections between American ideals and Jewish values
  • Develop and defend their own mission statements and civic frameworks

Cost of Group Visits

  • School Groups – All Title 1 schools are eligible for full subvention, including bus transportation. For all other educational school groups, we have needs-based funding available.
  • All Other Groups – Group bookings, including private tours, are available starting at $18pp. Please inquire about availability and pricing.

Hours of Operation
The Museum is open to the public Wednesday-Sunday, 10 am – 5 pm. Groups may be accommodated on other days of the week.
