Team Weitzman Resource Kit

Join Team Weitzman this Giving Tuesday, November 29th, for a Global Day of giving back.

This year, you have the unique opportunity to ask your family and friends to support a cause and mission that’s important to you by creating a fundraising page to support The Weitzman Museum’s educational programming which brings K-12 students to the Museum.

Thanks for being a part of Team Weitzman! Here is some more information to help you on your fundraising journey.

Let’s get started!

What is Peer-to-Peer Fundraising?

Peer-to-Peer Fundraising is the process whereby individuals use the power of their own personal networks (peers, friends, and family) to bring in new contributors to support an organization. The most common example of peer-to-peer fundraising is when an individual participates in a charity-sponsored walk-a-thon or some other similar event and asks friends and family to pledge donations based on their distance.

In the case of The Weitzman, we are asking our supporters to lead a peer-to-peer fundraising effort by creating a ‘campaign’ centered around a specific theme: such as, this amazing Museum on the occasion of Giving Tuesday! Or, your birthday!  Supporters (you!) can set up your own fundraising pages that your friends and family can visit in order to donate.

Overview

The Museum’s fundraising platform, Classy, has all the tools you need to successfully start raising funds for the Museum. As you set up your personal fundraising page, here are some things to think about:

  1. Set a Goal for Your Fundraising Page: Setting a monetary goal for your fundraiser will be the first step. Think about how many people you’d like to ask for support and what a reasonable gift amount would be. Based on that calculation, you can set a realistic goal for yourself and others.  For example, if send your email to 30 people and you think half will response with a $20 gift, you can set your goal at $300. To create a bit of friendly competition to encourage people to give a bit more, you could always increase your goal amount too. To jumpstart your campaign, be the first one to donate! Showcasing that you’re not only a supporter but also a donor will encourage your network to give.
  1. Tell Your Story: Here at The Weitzman, we’re pretty passionate about storytelling. We have an interactive It’s Your Story recording booth here at the Museum where visitors can share their own stories…and in fact, our entire Museum is about stories! But we digress: for your own fundraising page, we encourage sharing your own reasons for supporting the Museum and why you’ve decided to fundraise on our behalf. And don’t hesitate to get personal; your enthusiasm will be contagious, and people are more likely to give if there’s an emotional connection.
  1. Share the Message: Once you’ve built your page, share it with the world… or your world anyway. First, gather the names and emails of people you think will be the most responsive to a fundraising campaign.  These are the individuals that you should target for a campaign. Once your fundraising page goes live, you can also use Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or Linked In to expand your reach, posting a link of your page on these social media platforms. Leveraging these networks is how you’ll meet—and hopefully exceed—your fundraising goals.
