How We Combine Personal Information
We may combine information gathered from the Site and information that we have received, gathered, acquired, or stored from other sources, both information collected offline by The Weitzman and information received from third parties, into a single customer record. We may also use or combine information that we collect offline or receive from third-party sources to edit, enhance, or check the accuracy of your customer record.

How Personal Information Is Used
If you provide us personal information, we will use this information to respond to your inquiry or request, or to fulfill your order. We may also use it to contact you to provide information about other Weitzman activities, programs, membership and fundraising opportunities, products and special events that may interest you. You may opt out of having us use your information for these purposes by clicking the unsubscribe link on any communication from The Weitzman or by contacting us at bandrews@theweitzman.org.

With Whom Personal Information Is Shared
We never sell your email address to third-parties. The Weitzman may share your name and postal address (but never your email) with other non-profit organizations that may be of interest to you for informational, fundraising, or related purposes. In addition, all information we do share with other institutions is provided subject to confidentiality obligations limiting the nature of the use of your information and restricting the further dissemination of your information. If you do not wish to have your name and address shared with other institutions for these purposes, you may opt out at any time by contacting us via the above email address.

In addition, The Weitzman may provide your information to third-party vendors engaged to complete your transaction, or to help us manage the website, process online and offline transactions, better respond to the needs of our visitors, and enhance our marketing efforts. This includes third-party analytics vendors such as Google Analytics and other marketing partners who serve advertisements across the Internet, offline, and sometimes on the Site on the Weitzman’s behalf. They may use information about your visits to the Site and other sites to personalize advertisements for goods and services. We and our third-party vendors or partners use analytics data for a variety of purposes, such as to improve the design and content of our Site, to help us learn things like what pages are most attractive to all of our visitors and what promotions visitors like to see, and to gauge the success of our advertising campaigns.

The Weitzman may use or disclose your personal information if required to do so by law or in the good-faith belief that such action is necessary to (a) conform to applicable law or comply with legal process served on The Weitzman; (b) protect and defend the Weitzman’s rights or property, the Site, or the Weitzman’s users; or (c) act under emergency circumstances to protect the personal safety of Weitzman employees, agents, vendors, the users of the Site or the public.

Opt-Out
If you prefer not to have your personal information shared with third parties for marketing purposes, or would like to be removed from our mailing list, please contact us at bandrews@theweitzman.org.

If for any reason you do not wish to receive further email from The Weitzman, please follow the instructions for unsubscribing included within the body of the message that was sent to you, by clicking the unsubscribe link, or by emailing a message requesting to be removed from our electronic or standard mailing list with your name and address to bandrews@theweitzman.org.

Information Collected Automatically Cookies
A cookie is a small data file that websites can place on your hard drive when you visit. A cookie file can contain information such as a user ID that tracks the pages you’ve visited within that site.

The Weitzman’s website uses cookies to distinguish you from other users, provide a better experience when you browse the Site, and improve the Site’s performance and usefulness. The cookies on this Site are primarily used to recognize that a user has visited the website previously and to track user traffic patterns.

If you prefer not to receive cookies through the Site, you can set your browser to warn you before accepting cookies and refuse the cookie when your browser alerts you to its presence. You can also refuse all cookies by turning them off in your browser. You do not need to have cookies turned on to use any pages within our Site. For more information about cookies, including how to set your browser to reject cookies, click here.

The Weitzman may use web beacons, also known as action tags, tracer tags, or single-pixel GIFs. These are invisible graphics on a web page or email that is programmed to collect non personally identifiable information about your use of a given website, app or email, such as whether you opened the email. Like cookies, web beacons allow The Weitzman and its service providers to summarize overall usage patterns for our analysis and may provide personalized services to you. We do not share or provide personally identifiable information we may collect, such as names or email addresses, through web beacons.

Advertisements
We, our service providers, and other third parties may also collect information about Site users’ online activities over time and across third-party websites and our Site. Advertising cookies (or targeting cookies) collect information about the browsing habits associated with your device and are used to make advertising more relevant to you and your interests. They are also used by services provided by third parties on our Site, such as ‘Like’ or ‘Share’ buttons, in addition to providing the requested functionality. Third parties provide these services in return for recognizing that you (or your device) have visited a certain website. These third parties put down advertising cookies both when you visit our Site and when you use their services and navigate away from our Site. These advertisements are sometimes targeted and served to particular users and may come from third-party companies called “ad networks.” Ad networks include third-party ad servers, ad agencies, ad technology vendors, and research firms. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these ad networks and other parties. Advertisements served through the services may be targeted to users who fit a certain general profile category created by the third party, which may be inferred from information you provide to us, based on your service usage patterns, or based on your activity on Third Party Services (as defined in this Privacy Policy below). To learn more about ad networks and to adjust your preferences, please click here.

Some of the third parties that collect information about your activities on our Site may be members of organizations or programs that provide you with choices regarding the use of your browsing behavior for purposes of targeted advertising. For example, you may opt out of receiving targeted advertising on websites through members of the Network Advertising Initiative by clicking here or the Digital Advertising Alliance by clicking here. European users may opt out of receiving targeted advertising on websites through members of the European Interactive Digital Advertising Alliance by clicking here, selecting your country, and then clicking “Choices” (or similarly titled link). Mobile app users may opt out of receiving targeted advertising in mobile apps through members of the Digital Advertising Alliance by installing the AppChoices mobile app, available here, and selecting your choices. Please note that we may also work with companies that offer their own opt-out mechanisms and may not participate in the opt-out mechanisms that we linked above.

Non-Personal Information
When you visit our Site, our servers may keep an activity log that does not identify you individually. Generally, we collect the following categories of Non-Personal Information:

  • Certain demographic data such as age and gender
  • Certain device information about your computer, mobile device, or other device that you use to access the Site, including IP address, geolocation information, unique device indicators, browser type, browser language, and other transactional information
  • Certain usage information about your use of the Site, including a reading history of the pages you view. We use this information to provide you with a more customized experience on the Site
  • “Traffic data” such as time of access, date of access, software crash reports, session identification number, length of visit, and referring website addresses
  • Your search terms and search results

Security
The Weitzman maintains reasonable administrative, technical and physical safeguards designed to protect the personal data we maintain against accidental, unlawful or unauthorized destruction, loss, alteration, access, disclosure or use.

Despite these efforts, however, no organization can fully eliminate risks or guarantee the security of personal data. Unauthorized entry or use, hardware or software failure, and other factors may compromise the security of information about you at any time, and we bear no liability for uses or disclosures of personal data or other data arising in connection with theft of the information or other malicious actions.

Data Retention
We retain personal data for as long as is necessary for the processing purposes for which the data was collected, and any other permissible, related purpose. When we no longer need the personal information we collect, we either anonymize the information or securely destroy the information.

Links to Other Sites
The Site contains links to the sites and services of our service providers, sponsors, or other third parties. In many cases, these links represent vendors to or supporters of The Weitzman. Although every effort is made to ensure that any referrals are to reputable and relevant sources, The Weitzman does not control the content or links that appear on these sites. In addition, these sites or services, including their content and links, may be constantly changing. These sites and services may have their own privacy policies and customer service policies, or no policy at all. The Weitzman encourages visitors to review the privacy policies of any sites they visit to ensure their Personal Information is being protected.

Children
The Weitzman does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 years of age. Children should always ask parents/guardians for permission before providing personal information to any website or purchasing any products or services online. The Weitzman urges all parents and guardians to participate in their children’s exploration of the Internet and to teach them about protecting their personal information while online.
