This year, 58 students from Philadelphia’s Central High School worked together to critically examine and celebrate American democracy. Their images and writing respond to the question, “Where do you see the intersections of citizenship, community, and care in your lives?” This installation uplifts their voices and explores how they express foundational democratic ideals.

This project is inspired by the American Creed: Citizen Power multiplatform documentary initiative and forthcoming PBS series. Before the series launches, teens and young adults everywhere are taking photos exploring a range of essential American themes. Central High School students are among the first to participate in this national effort.

This installation will be on view from April 19-May 12, 2024.

The Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History is pleased to participate in this project, aligned with our mission to inspire reflection, dialogue, and action in the pursuit of a more just and compassionate world. In keeping with the purpose of this project to promote civil discourse and civic engagement, several works displayed here express views that are not consistent with The Weitzman’s positions and policies.
