When the world expects enemies, Aziz Abu Sarah and Maoz Inon insist on something more difficult and more urgent: the work of peacebuilding. In this Sunday afternoon program, the two acclaimed peacebuilders and social entrepreneurs take the stage at The Weitzman with NPR’s Dave Davies to discuss their highly anticipated new book, The Future is Peace: A Shared Journey Across the Holy Land.
Inon, an Israeli activist and entrepreneur, lost both of his parents, Bilha and Yakovi, on October 7, 2023, when their home was attacked and burned. Abu Sarah, a Palestinian peacebuilder, lost his older brother, Tayseer, one week after he was released from an Israeli prison where he had been detained and tortured for suspected stone throwing during the first intifada. In the wake of profound personal loss, they chose partnership over revenge. That bond has carried them from opening TED2024 with a widely shared conversation on reconciliation, to meeting Pope Francis at Verona’s Arena of Peace, to an official audience at the Vatican with Pope Leo XIV, and even serving as Olympic torchbearers in the Milano Cortina 2026 relay in Verona.
In this program Abu Sarah and Inon will share the stories behind their friendship and the on-the-ground journey that shaped The Future is Peace– traveling through places where grief and hope live side-by-side, and arguing that “peace” isn’t a slogan, but a practical, civilian-led path forward. The program will end with audience Q&A and a book signing.
Co-Produced by The Weitzman and InterAct International.
