Drawing on sound, image and text, this presentation explores the variety of ways by which earlier generations of American Jews responded to Israel’s War of Independence, all with an eye toward understanding the role of emotion in modern Jewish history.

Jenna Weissman Joselit, the Charles E. Smith Professor of Judaic Studies & Professor of History, at the George Washington University, is an historian of the modern American Jewish experience, as well as a monthly columnist for Tablet She is currently at work on a cultural biography of Mordecai Kaplan for Yale University’s “Jewish Lives” series.
