This JAHM, dive into the little-known story of pioneering Jewish American engineer, Abraham “Abe” Silverstein (1908-2001), who was called by NASA its “Elder Statesman of Aviation.” From his role as chief of NASA’s Space Flight Programs to his posthumous induction into the NASA Glenn Hall of Fame and the National Aviation Hall of Fame, Abe’s is the story of Jewish American achievement you didn’t know you wanted to know! Bob Arrighi, a historian and archivist at NASA Glenn Research Center for more than 20 years, will discuss Silverstein’s contributions to U.S. space flight history without which NASA’s space program wouldn’t be the same.

About the Speaker

Bob Arrighi has documented the Goddard Space Flight Center’s history through articles, websites, and books, including Bringing the Future Within Reach: Celebrating 75 Years of the NASA John H. Glenn Research Center and Revolutionary Atmosphere: History of Altitude Wind Tunnel and Space Power Chambers. He has also been responsible for collecting and preserving archival materials for the Glenn History Collection.
