From Personal Tragedy to National Purpose
Jonathan Shimriz lost his younger brother, Alon Shamriz, in the most heartbreaking way—abducted from his home in Kibbutz Kfar Aza on October 7, 2023, held captive in Gaza for nearly 70 days, only to be tragically killed by friendly fire while attempting to escape. From his devastating grief, Jonathan found purpose—founding KUMU, a nationwide movement dedicated to healing Israel’s social fabric and demanding the return of all remaining hostages. His powerful voice has become a symbol of relentless activism, inspiring thousands to rise up and fight for justice.
Join us for this screening of Alon, My Brother the Hero, a deeply moving short documentary capturing the painful yet determined fight for the return of Alon Shimriz. The screening will be immediately followed by a talkback with Jonathan Shimriz. Hear firsthand from Jonathan about his family’s struggle, the ongoing fight to bring every hostage home, and how KUMU is reshaping Israeli society from the ground up.
Presented by the Philadelphia Hostage Family Forum in partnership with the Israel Film Festival and The Weitzman
