About Second Sunday

Second Sunday at The Weitzman is a monthly free community day in Philadelphia featuring family activities, hands-on experiences, special programs, and opportunities to explore American Jewish history and culture. Located on Independence Mall in Philadelphia’s Historic District, each Second Sunday offers a new theme and new ways for families and visitors of all ages to discover, create, and connect.

Second Sunday Schedule:

9-11 am Sensory-friendly morning, with reduced lighting, sound, and motion

10 am Community Day activity

5 pm Museum closes

Is Second Sunday free?

Yes! The Weitzman’s monthly Community Day, Second Sunday, is a free program, which provides visitors complimentary access to all exhibits/galleries, a family activity, and the museum at large.

Does Second Sunday require a ticket?

While we encourage walk-ins, we recommend advance registration, especially for the Lindy and Akman Family Gallery immersive experience, Colors of Creation

Visitors will be asked to provide basic registration information when reserving online or checking in at the Museum.

Is Second Sunday good for kids?

Absolutely! Second Sunday, The Weitzman’s monthly free community day, was designed with children in mind. Second Sunday offers free access to exhibits, including the family gallery’s immersive experience Colors of Creation, as well as a kid-friendly activity and sensory-friendly access.

 

What time does Second Sunday start?

The schedule for The Weitzman’s monthly community day, Second Sunday, begins at 9 am with sensory-friendly access to families who prefer/require it. The theme-specific activity will begin at 10:00, at the Museum’s regular opening time. Full schedule below:

9-11 am Sensory-friendly access

10-12 pm Family activity, rotating monthly based on theme

5 pm Museum closes

Does Second Sunday offer sensory-friendly access?

Yes! The Weitzman will open one hour early on our monthly community day, Second Sunday, at 9 am and offer reduced lighting, sound, and motion, through 11 am. The themed family activity will begin at 10 am.
