More About Rachael Sage
Described by Blurt Magazine as “the Carole King of her generation”, Rachael Sage is a vibrant Jewish singer-songwriter from NYC’s Lower East Side, whose live performances contain playful Yiddishkeit and who sings about everything from the beauty of Shabbat (“Invisible Light”) to the Kabbalah (“Ode To A Sailor”) to The Holocaust (“93 Maidens”). In recent years, fans have enjoyed her unique revamp of the classic Yiddish song “Umru Meine“, along with her holiday singles “Tchatchkes & Latkes” and “Hanukkah In The Village”.
Influenced by her parents’ classical, Broadway and “oldies” records – as well as music she heard in synagogue – Sage received a 4-track tape recorder for her Bat Mitzvah and her first gig was composing music for Anti-Defamation League educational videos. Since her early years, she has performed her unique hybrid of folk-pop all over the world including in Tel Aviv, Berlin and at The Edinburgh Fringe Festival, where her shows “Sequins & Shpiel” and “Stop Me If I’m Kvetching” received rave reviews. Additionally, Sage has appeared at The Jewish Music Awards, Baruch PAC’s “Solo In The City” series featuring Sandra Bernhard and Tovah Feldshuh, The National Yiddish Theater Gala at Lincoln Center (where she sang with Mandy Patinkin), and also performed with original cast members of “Fiddler On The Roof” at The Museum of Jewish Heritage. In the true spirit of tikkun olam, Rachael – a self-described “cancer thriver” celebrating 6 years in remission – is also an activist and philanthropist who has supported various charities through her musical endeavors, including The National Foundation for Women’s Cancer, National Network For Youth, and American Refugee Committee.
