Talkback with a selection of the featured filmmakers to follow.

Our fan-favorite program of Jewish shorts is back, this year with a focus on telling the diverse stories of Jewish women. Spanning romance, musicals, dramas, and documentaries, each film is either directed by a woman or centered on a woman’s experience, forming a diverse melting pot of Jewish stories.

Double Happiness

Director Shari Albert
USA | 17min | English

Pennsylvania Premiere After the death of her husband of 50 years, a life-affirming Jewish widow and the tightly-wound Chinese-American restaurateur who serves her family every Christmas, find themselves drawn into an unexpected late-in-life romance.

Malka

Director Stacey Maltin
USA | 2024 | 16 min | English

Pennsylvania Premiere Malka, a Holocaust survivor, starts to see visions of her life at the camps during a present-day family seder. As time falls in on itself, Malka must find the hope in the present that she did in the past in order to survive. Featuring original music by Seth Bisen-Hersh.

Over My Dead Body

Director Meital Cohen Navarro
USA | 25 min | English, Persian with English subtitles

Pennsylvania Premiere When a young Jewish Persian-American woman tells her parents that her fiancé is Muslim, they make her choose between him and them. The film explores internal conflicts surrounding Jewish immigrant families (here played by Muslim actors) and offers a window into the taboo subjects of religious intolerance and intermarriage outside of one’s culture.

The Source of All Beauty

Director Rachel Lévy
Israel | 2023 |20 min | Hebrew with English subtitles

Northeast Premiere Yaeli, an ultra-Orthodox Jewish young woman, carries a terrible secret that may destroy all her chances of future happiness. In spite of this, Yaeli is not prepared to compromise on love, even if it means standing up to her beloved and controlling father.

Yiddle Yiddle On

Director Peter Decherney
USA, South Africa | 2025 |15 min | English, Yiddish

World Premiere Leigh Nudelman is an Ashkenazi South African Jewish singer, who is single-handedly reviving Yiddish music in Johannesburg. A fourth generation South African, Leigh eloquently describes the power of Yiddish to connect her to her ancestors, just as she expresses the struggles and joys of being Jewish in South Africa today.
